SPRING 2012 NEWSLETTER
Goodbye to Snow - Hello to Spring !!!
Recap of 2011~ Last year
we had record- breaking amounts of rain. The
spring season started late because so many yards
were saturated and flooded. Our season started
in May when we usually start the season in
April. Diseases were common in many lawns
because of the rain. The grass did not go
dormant last year and we were cutting grass all
year. Insects were not a problem because insects
like dry sunny hot days. Let’s hope for that
beautiful spring that we all deserve!

SNOW MOLD
- Snow and dampness can cause snow mold. Snow
mold appears as a matted down grass that is
brown. It does not kill the grass most of the
time. You can lightly rake up the matted down
areas of grass to get some air circulation. To
help prevent snow mold next year, your last
grass cutting should be short. All leaves
should be removed from your lawn before the
first snowfall. We can core aerate the lawn
which would help to get air and fertilizer to
the roots. Most often with proper
fertilization, the lawn will recover without
doing any reseeding. |
 |
|
GRUBS-. Skunks digging
up your yard and grass lifting up like a carpet,
are signs that grubs are eating the roots of
your grass.

What
Does Your Lawn Need Now?
CORE AERATION
- Loosens hard compacted soil that results in
deeper, thicker, healthier and stronger turf
grass roots, reduces water run off and puddles
on lawn, allows air, water and nutrients to get
down into soil, provides
good environment for overseeding. Helps lawn recover from snow
mold. Starting at $50 for lots under an acre.
|
|
THATCHING
- Thatch that is greater than ½ inch prevents
water and fertilizer from reaching root zone,
starting at $70.
 |
|
SLICE SEED
- Replaces thin turf with new improved better
grasses, cutting grooves/lines into soil ¾ inch
deep, then machine drops seed into grooves.
This will make your thin lawn thick and
beautiful again. Starting at $100.

Jump Start Lawncare, Inc. recommends our GOLD
PROGRAM in order to achieve the best results.
Gold Program ~
Broad leaf weed control and preventive grub
control applied once per year that will
eliminate grubs eating the roots of your lawn
guaranteed. Preventive surface insect control
application once per year will help to keep
chinch bugs, sod webworms, ants, ticks, and
fleas out of your lawn. Core aeration helps with
thatch build up, stimulates new growth, breaks
up compacted soil, allows fertilizer, air and
water to get down to the root zone. Thatching
can be done if the thatch exceeds ½ inch. We
will decide on thatching or core aeration. We
will do either or depending on your lawn.
Gold program total would be 6 visits with
aeration or thatching.
If you sign up for the gold program we will put
surface insect control down at regular
application cost, a savings of $15. With the
gold program you pay for an extra application of
grub control. Cost is double your regular cost
because we are putting down 2 applications at
one time. Core aeration cost is around $50 for
lots under one acre. Thatching cost would be
based on the size and condition of your lawn.

Bed Maintenance Program |
-
Apply bed control product in
early spring to help prevent weeds from
germinating.
-
Prune shrubs in early spring
before buds break thru. Prune again in
August or September. If you prune too late
in the season, new growth is forced and may
cause the shrub to die.
-
Cut back perennials,
ornamental grasses, and clean out beds of
debris.
-
Edge beds and around trees to
that you are ready for mulching.
Let our certified arborist
maintain your flowerbeds and shrubs so that they
stay healthy. This will rejuvenate old
declining plants by removing older wood so young
growth can develop.
